ROUTE: Reserve Selous-Mikumi National Park -Ruaha National Park -Mbeya, Njombe-Sumbawanaga-Reserve Kigoma Katavi- Gombe

Day 01- Airport Dar es Salaam-Selous
Pick up at the international airport in Dar es Salaam by our representative who will introduce you to the itinerary and the safari driver / guide. Soon start the safari towards the Selous Game Reserve. The road will be long but enjoyable as we can see the villages that are in our path. Go into the reserve in the afternoon. Day 02/03 – Selous Reserve
Depart early after breakfast to enjoy this vast area of central Tanzania, bigger than some European countries. The number of animals is very high, comparable to the best national parks in Africa, we will see lions, leopards, elephants and buffaloes, and the most beautiful antelope like the sable, eland, kudu and many other species. As an activity we can enjoy a boat ride on the Rufiji River. Also, we will trek escorted by an armed ranger, the duration of the trek will be about 3 or 4 hours. Day 04 – Reserve Selous – Mikumi NP
After breakfast we will go to Mikumi National Park,,, its dirt roads leading to an abundant wildlife with zebras, elephants, giraffes and Gnus. Arrive to enjoy a beautiful sunset, weather permitting. Accommodation in Mikumi Bush Camp (FB)

Day 05 – Full day Mikumi NP
This day is dedicated to visit the park where we can see different types of wildlife and spectacular views of mountains and endless plains, with a great variety of vegetation. Accommodation in Mikumi Bush Camp (FB)

Day 06 – PN Mikumi – Ruaha NP -
After breakfast we will PNRuaha road. This park takes its name from the Great Ruaha River (Mto Ruaha Mkuu) which flows along the park. It will see elephants in herds, Zebras, giraffes, gazelles, antelopes  and different types of birds such as bucerotidaes, alcedines, Passeriformes, storks .  Accommodation in Sunset Lodge (FB)

Day 07 – Ruaha NP.
After breakfast we will visit the park and will see several types of wildlife such as antelopes water, and greater kudu lesser Kudu, big gazelle, hyena, jackal, a kind of a wild dog recently seen that today is in danger of extinction. Accommodation in Sunset Lodge (FB)

Day 08 – Ruaha NP.
After breakfast and with the company of an armed ranger we will begin our trek, the duration of which will be about 3 or 4 hours.
The trekking will be done through the paths of the park, to feel and appreciate the flora and fauna  present here. Return to the lodge for lunch, then take a photo safari. Accommodation in Sunset Lodge (FB)

Day 09  Ruaha NP - Njombe
After breakfast we will travel to the city of Iringa via the township of Ismila Stone Age , then pass through the village of Mufindi where we can visit the tea and tabacoo plantations. Accommodation in Bungalows (FB)

Day 10 – Njombe – Mbeya
After breakfast we continue our path towards the road from Mbeya town. Accommodation Mkwazulu Motel. (FB)

Day 11 – Mbeya – Sumbawanga
After breakfast we continue our path towards the town of Sumbawanga. The name of this city  means superstitions and practices related to spirits, which are still practiced. This city has 150,000 inhabitants and it is curious to visit the streets and markets. The economy depends almost entirely on agriculture and petty trading. Accommodation at  Moravian Church (PC)

Day 12 – Sumbawanga – Katavi NP
After breakfast we continue our path towards the Katavi National Park which is one of the parks that is still virgin, rarely visited by tourists, but it is rich in fauna and flora, we can do a photo safari. Accommodation Katavi in bandas. (FB)

Day 13 – Katavi NP.
After breakfast we go back into the Katavi NP to continue enjoying the park and its flora and fauna, lunch at noon near the pond of the hippos then continue with our safari through the park. Accommodations Katavi in bandas. (FB)

Day 14 / 15 – Katavi NP-Kigoma
We say goodbye to the bush of Tanzania and descend into the big Cridge of the  Great Western Rift Valley to reach the shores of its largest lake, Lake Tanganyika, where we will enjoy its waters and its surroundings. Accommodation at Kigoma Hotel (FB)

Day 16 – Full day Kigoma.
After breakfast, spend the day with a visit to the mysterious village of  Ujiji, a historic place, which tells the story of Dr. Livingstone, and explains that he left the civilized world and settled comfortably in this village where he lived with natives, using his scientific and mathematical investigations in that place to the other side of Lake Tanganyika. We will also visit the Kigoma streets. Kigoma Hotel Accommodation. (B&B)

Day 17 Kigoma – Gombe NP
After breakfast we will travel by boat across Lake Tanganyika to Gombe NP.  (Length of the boat ride is about 3 hours) Accommodation in Gombe bandas. (FB).

Day 18 – Gombe NP.
Today we will trekk in search of chimpanzees. Our enthusiasm and patience will make us achieve the goal of seeing these magnificent animals. Accommodation in Bandas Gombe. (FB)


Gombe Stream NP:
This park is the smallest of Tanzania (52 square km) and lies on the shores of Lake Tanganyika in the north of Kigoma. This park is where you can see and enjoy wildlife and closely chimpanzees, as they are accustomed to human presence. They live in the park about 150 chimpanzees in free and wild conditions.
You can see other animals in the park such as black and white colobos and green monkeys, antelopes, baboons, wild boars … And a large variety of birds. The best time to visit this park is from May to October.


PN 19/20 Day Gombe-Dar es Salaam
After breakfast, return by train to the town of Kigoma, where we will transfer to another train to reach the city of Dar es Salaam. Bed Breakfast, lunch and dinner on the train. (FB)

Suggestions

If you´re travelling with your partner or spouse, always pack pieces of clothes in each other´s suitcase (specially underwear). In case one of the suitcase doesn´t reach its destination, you will have something to wear.
