The use of travelling is to regulate imagination by reality, and instead of thinking how things may be, to see them as they are.
Make sure you have all your personal documents are in order: unexpired passport and visas in case are required by the destination country.
Read the brochures and ads (and especially public announcements or travel warnings for health and other important topics) from the consulates or embassies of the countries you plan to visit.
Visit your local medical center to obtain information about any vaccionation or medical information valuable for your trip.
It is very convenient to familiarise with local laws and customs of the countries to which you are traveling. Remember that the freedoms and rights specified by the constitution of our own countries are not always applicable in the countries you are about to travel. You are obliged to respect and enforce the laws of the country that you are visiting.
Make two copies of the identification page of your passport. This will facilitate replacement if your passport is stolen or lost. Leave one copy at home with friends or family that can easily connect from abroad. Carry the other with you and keep it separate from your passport.
Leave a copy of your travel route with your family or friends so they can contact you easily in the event of an emergency.
Take permanent care of your luggage. Do not leave it alone or unattended in public areas (airports, hotel lobby, bus stations,etc). Do not accept packages from strangers in any situation, not even from people you meet during your trip.
Learn from the embassies and consulates in your country about the foreign countries that you are about to travel to. Postal addresses and telephone numbers are very useful in the event of any problems. It is easy to obtain this information online.
Try not to attract attention in countries, cities or areas about which you do not have much information. Avoid exposing or showing off expensive jewelry and eye catching accesories, and do not carry excessive amounts of money or credit cards. If you have to carry them, do keep them stored in different places.
To avoid compliance with concerned local laws, deal only with authorized agents when you change currencies or purchase art or antiques.
If you encounter any problem, promptly contact your nearest embassy. Please, note that embassies do not normally open on weekends and local bank holidays.
Buy travel insurance to cover you during the whole time abroad. Make sure this insurance has a cancelation clause to avoid losing any money paid in advance
If you´re travelling with your partner or spouse, always pack pieces of clothes in each other´s suitcase (specially underwear). In case one of the suitcase doesn´t reach its destination, you will have something to wear.
